UIS Creates Fund to Honor Clarice Ford

We are sharing a note that we received from UIS about a new fund they established in memory of Clarice Ford, a former member and Community Services Director of our Rotary Club. The purpose of the fund is to provide support for students dealing with financial hardships or emergency needs.

Dr. Clarice Ford was a leader dedicated to cultivating inclusive communities and ensuring that every student had an opportunity to succeed.

She was an essential member of the leadership team at the University of Illinois Springfield since 2008, spending the last six years of her service as vice chancellor for Student Affairs. You may know her by her motto, which was “Whatever it takes.” Whatever aspiration that person was shooting for, she helped them achieve it.

Dr. Ford’s legacy will live on in the many students, faculty and staff she guided, inspired and influenced. And her beautiful spirit can positively impact even more people through gifts to the Dr. Clarice Ford “Whatever It Takes” Fund that has been established at UIS in her honor. Make your donation today by visiting www.uis.edu/studentaffairs/about/our-staff/dr-clarice-ford-memorial-page/.

Harry Mitchell Wins the Challenge
In our last Newsletter, we challenged members to identify the mysterious Rotarian who spoke at our August 31 meeting. Harry Mitchell provided the best, if not only, response to this challenge! His award-winning answer is provided below.

At first I thought it was Howard Stern who had come to do a remote broadcast from Maldaners.  Then I thought it might be Ross Hodel doing an ad for the Men’s Hair Club.  But then I remembered it was Barry, and he spoke to us about membership.  ---  Harry Mitchell, September 28, 2020
