On August 31, it was our Club’s honor to recognize Jack Meadors as an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Springfield. Jack was inducted into membership in the Rotary Club of Springfield in 1980 and has participated in meetings for about four decades. The image to the left shows him enjoying a club meeting in 2019. William Sturm presented the citation for his appointment as an Honorary Member. Jack was born in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana in 1930 to Eunice and Dewey Meadors. His family owned a lot of land, part of which was worked under the share crop system. He attended St. Louis Public Schools and graduated from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff with a B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Economics and Accounting. He also attended St. Louis University and Sangamon State University (before it became UIS). He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956. After working for the Air Force, Army, Post Office, Housing and Urban Development, and the Small Business Administration for a combined total of 44 years, he retired. He has lived in Cleveland, Ohio, Washington D.C., and Chicago, Illinois. He met and married Jeweldine Allen in Chicago, and moved to Springfield in 1970 with one daughter. Currently, after 54 years of marriage, Jack and Jeweldine have two daughters, two son-in-laws, and five grandchildren. We are honored to have Jack as a member of our Club and now recognize him as an Honorary Member. |
