Club Honors Jack Meadors
On August 31, it was our Club’s honor to recognize Jack Meadors as an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Springfield. Jack was inducted into membership in the Rotary Club of Springfield in 1980 and has participated in meetings for about four decades. The image to the left shows him enjoying a club meeting in 2019. William Sturm presented the citation for his appointment as an Honorary Member.

Jack was born in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana in 1930 to Eunice and Dewey Meadors. His family owned a lot of land, part of which was worked under the share crop system.

He attended St. Louis Public Schools and graduated from the University of Arkansas, Pine Bluff with a B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Economics and Accounting. He also attended St. Louis University and Sangamon State University (before it became UIS).

He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956. After working for the Air Force, Army, Post Office, Housing and Urban Development, and the Small Business Administration for a combined total of 44 years, he retired.

He has lived in Cleveland, Ohio, Washington D.C., and Chicago, Illinois. He met and married Jeweldine Allen in Chicago, and moved to Springfield in 1970 with one daughter. Currently, after 54 years of marriage, Jack and Jeweldine have two daughters, two son-in-laws, and five grandchildren.

We are honored to have Jack as a member of our Club and now recognize him as an Honorary Member.
Submit Service Hours and Contributions
Club members have been busy serving Rotary and the community. Several members deployed flags in August and will be picking up flags this week. Others have worked on other community service projects. If you purchased school supplies for Ridgely students or made a contribution for the effort, please report the amount spent. Rotarians are People of Action and are making contributions to the local and global community. Help the Club and Rotary International capture quantifiable contributions by completing the Service form.

Take a minute to submit your hours and any contributions or expenses you have for Rotary projects. Click submit to access the form.  If you prefer, you can email me by clicking here.
September 14 Hybrid Club Meeting
Please join us for our Monday, September 14 Club meeting from 5:30-6:30 p.m.—in person at Maldaners Upstairs or via Webex by following the instructions provided below. Our September theme is Education and Literacy and the ways we can promote it in our community. Our guest speaker is Donna Brown, the founder of iMagicNation. This organization is dedicated to inspiring children through the magic of reading. Last year, they received a Springfield Rotary Foundation grant from us for a literacy project with Black Hawk School in Springfield. Donna is shown here stocking the Little Library that our own Neal Miller built and helped install on the iMagicNation property on the corner of 16th and Spruce Streets in Springfield. Rotarians are invited to bring books to the meeting for children grades K-12, but the biggest needs are for children first learning to read.

We will also receive committee reports and hear wonderful things from club members during Brag-a-Bucks time.
