Note from Tom and Dee O'Brien
As we are away during winter months, we both miss our only opportunity to join our fellow Springfield Rotarians during the summer. But my brain surgery (now almost 3 years ago), respiratory and cardiac conditions make it too risky to join groups, especially at indoor venues. It's not just Rotary that we're alienated from, but friends and so many other social contacts - all of which bring change and flavor and stability - to life. It's extraordinary how lives have changed by this virus.  Yet we're hopeful for a legitimate vaccine to be available soon, and our chance to return to Maldaner's on Monday evenings to enjoy the stimulation and fellowship of the Rotary family that's been an important part of my life for 50 years.

Warm regards to all,
Tom and Dee O'Brien
October 15 is Global Handwashing Day
The WASH Rotary Action Group announced October 15 is Global Handwashing Day.

This initiative is to increase awareness of the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.

Excellent resources to help your club promote hand washing with soap in your community can be found at GlobalHandwashing.org

The World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF are jointly calling for action to achieve universal hand hygiene. They have released a document that outlines why handwashing is important and a framework on how to achieve this.
