Larry Werline as General Ulysses S. Grant

Larry Werline wants people to see the true man, not the myths, when he performs as a living history first-person presenter of Ulysses S. Grant. Please join us at 5:30 p.m. in Maldaners Upstairs for a chance to learn more about who the real General Grant was and to have many questions about the man and the myth answered. The 18th president of the United States, Grant led the Union Army to victory over the Confederacy during the American Civil War. But for all his accomplishments, Grant has a legacy clouded by myths that Werline hopes to bust during the many engagements he has every year.

Werline moved to Chatham six years ago from the DeKalb and Sycamore area in northern Illinois. He has a degree in industrial management and is retired from Oracle Corp. and A.O. Smith Corp. He has two daughters, Beth and Katy; a stepson, Dana; two granddaughters and three grandsons.  Larry is president of the Springfield Noon Lions Club, president of the Deer Ridge Condo Association and deacon at Parkway Christian Church. He is a principal in the Grant, Lee, Custer & Company Living History Troupe as well as senior vice commander of the Sons of Union Veterans, Springfield Camp.
