Bernard Schoenburg
An Illinois Political Update

Bernie began his career as a reporter and columnist for the Pantagraph in Bloomington, including five years as Statehouse reporter.  In 1986 he began working for the Associated Press in Chicago.  He joined The State Journal-Register of Springfield in 1990.  He covered Springfield city government for two years and became the newspaper’s political writer and columnist in 1992.  Through the three jobs, Bernie has covered the Illinois delegations to seven national political conventions. He also covered the 2009 inauguration of President Barack Obama.

 

Bernie is a native of Evanston, Il and is a graduate of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a B.S. in journalism.  At the U of I he was the Soccer Club co-captain.

 

He is married to Springfield native Dr. Kim Yaffe Schoenburg, a family practice physician. They have two children, Sam of Chicago and Elly of New York.
